Comba launches antenna monitoring system for public safety in-building communications systems

Wireless solutions provider Comba Telecom, Inc. released its new innovative public safety in-building CriticalPoint™ Antenna Monitoring System (AMS) this week, the company announced in a release.
The CriticalPoint™ Antenna Monitoring System is a compact system that’s designed to monitor individual service antennas of an ERRC system in real time. The system is monitored by Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology; as CriticalPoint’s Master Control Unit (MCU) keeps track of RFID tags that are integrated into select Comba’s service antennas.
In the event an antenna fails, the tag will no longer emit an RF signal back to the MCU, prompting it to generate an NFPA/IFC compliant alarm, and from there identify that particular antenna. With an easy-to-use, intuitive web-based graphical user interface (GUI), users can view the system’s overall status as well as each individual service antenna and identify any issues right away.
The CriticalPoint AMS is put inline with a public safety BDA or Fiber DAS system’s passive infrastructure, which is installed in the building. From the AMS Master Control Unit, there are two dry contact alarms that are wired to the annunciator panel or NFPA/IFC compliant visual alarm reference. The entire system can support up to 50 antennas and tags. The CriticalPoint AMS system can also be easily configured, and its intuitive web-based GUI has incredibly low power consumption and is housed in a NEMA 4 enclosure.
“Monitoring a complete in-building public safety communications system was near impossible and very expensive in the past,” Comba Public Safety Product Manager Steven Cheng said in a statement. “With the CriticalPoint™ Antenna Monitoring System, we can now reliably monitor the full system, both the active and passive components to ensure the system is fully functional at a very reasonable cost.”
Comba’s CriticalPoint™ Antenna Monitoring System will be available next month. More information is available on Comba’s website.
